Culture

Working on a project in cooperation with state institutions, which will be the pride of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic, is one of the many successful projects of our company. With the aim of integrating and making available cultural collections and artefacts on the European portal, together with many others from other countries, it can be considered a major shift in the digitalization of Slovakia. The project was created with the aim of Slovak culture being one of those that will contribute art and works in digitized form and to share these objects with the European digital library as much as possible.

Our customer

Our customer, the National Cultural Centre and Further Education, is an organization under the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic. The Centre was established in 1990 following the dissolution of the Cultural Institute in Bratislava. Its main purpose is to support cultural identity on a global level. It helps map and present the current cultural landscape and its development across regions. It also focuses on the protection and development of intangible cultural heritage and supports artistic activities. As part of informal education, it provides methodological materials as well as professional and artistic training.

Among its other activities are statistical analysis and research aimed at gaining deeper insights into culture. These efforts enable the Centre to further expand scientific knowledge and use the collected information as a foundation for data-driven policymaking.

Our challenge and goals

The goal of the entire project was to link the cultural heritage on Slovakiana.sk with Europeana.eu, which makes accessible the digitized monuments of all European countries. The challenge for our company was to effectively solve the overall system support and program the functional integration of Slovakiana.sk and Europeana.eu. At the same time, to support greater sharing of the Slovak cultural heritage with the European organization, so that it reaches teachers, journalists, students, scientists or anyone who is interested in such works, artefacts, publications. The digital format will enable access to these works even for the disabled, who would otherwise have such an opportunity several times more difficult.

The goal of the project was to ensure seamless integration of the Slovakiana.sk system with Europeana.eu thereby supporting the efficient sharing of digital content.

Our solution

Based on the technical protocol provided, our team created an export data sample. This sample could then be exported from the database structures for the customer at the national level (slovakiana.sk) in such a way that the institution at the European level (europeana.eu) could retrieve and harvest it, and subsequently confirm that it is capable of receiving, processing, and publishing the digitized cultural objects.

It was therefore necessary to create these exported structures exactly according to the predefined rules set by the customer, ensuring that the entire process would be as smooth and straightforward as possible — not only for the customer but also for our team.
